The trumpet player Matthew Brown, now situated in Nuremberg, Frankonia is originally from Connecticut. Matthew attended the Manhattan School of Music while still at high school. He was a student at McGill University, Montreal, during which time he was an American Brass Quintet Fellow at the Aspen Music Festival and performed as a soloist at the Festival Montreal Nouvelle Musique. After moving to Germany to study with William Forman at the Hanns Eisler Hochschule, Berlin, Matthew was invited to the Lucerne Festival Academy and the International Ensemble Modern Akademie. While studying at the HMTM Hannover, with Jeroen Berwaerts, he founded the brass quintet Ensemble Schwerpunkt, with whom he won the Felix Mendelssohn Preis in 2011 and the Jan Koetsier Competition in 2012. From 2010–2012 he played in the Osnabrücker Sinfonieorchester. He has performed as guest princiapl trumpeter with opera orchestras in Hamburg and Oslo. He was a semi-finalist at the ARD Munich Competition in 2011 and plays frequently with contemporary music ensembles such musikFabrik, Cologne and Ensemble Modern as well as such orchestras as the WDR Radio Orchestra and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra.
